I'll share the results privately only if you PM me HERE! Or post in this thread with your guess, and then ask me and I'll be happy to PM you. Otherwise, the suspense may kill you o_O Please don't reveal the results to anyone else yet. I'll post them publicly once people have a chance to listen and comment in this thread.

Acoustic guitar test clips. This time, the Wunder Audio CM7 in omni through an RND Portico II preamp, and the Slate VMS microphone with the U47 mic model at 125% intensity through the 1073 preamp model. Capsules were aligned, distance was about 16", positioned at the 12-14th fret, slightly towards the body (but mostly on axis). Both recorded directly into a Burl Mothership. No other processing apart from some slight ambience added (Bricasti on aux).

(The guitar is a Larrivee OM-09 that is in need of a setup, so the intonation is a bit off.)

Let me know what you think, but please keep things friendly here, they are only microphones. :)

This test is much more of an "apples to apples" test. The CM7 is essentially Mike's modern recreation of a classic U47. The VMS model is created from a vintage U47, which we assume is an excellent specimen in great condition. To me, these are much closer, so I expect the opinions to be much more split.

Thanks for checking out the clips!

(PS - the song I'm trying not to butcher too badly here is Morcheeba's very awesome track, "Blood Like Lemonade") :) :bangz:

I'll post the results here after people weigh in with which they prefer, and why? Which clip sounds more balanced? Which clip do you think better represents a more natural representation of the instrument? (I know that's probably hard to guess unless you are here with this particular guitar).

Ok, well a lot of Gearslutz people PM'ing me asking me there, so I'll post the results here.

N is the VMS U47/1073.

R is the Wunder CM7/Portico II.

To me, R is more pleasing in this case and would sit better. N is harder sounding with more mid push. This also isn't a bad thing for the track either, and does work in its own way.

R sounds more like the guitar in the room.

I'm happy to do some more clips if people are interested, but I'll be posting them here, so feel free to join in on this thread as well. :horns::bangz:
